How roleplay chats work

Museris roleplay chats are built for stories with a cast of characters. You choose the characters in each chat, add lore or a scene instruction when you need them, and Museris builds the context the AI uses for every reply.

Two design choices make this work differently from many chat apps: Museris sends the conversation as one assembled chat log, and it treats the player as a full character.

One chat log, not a stack of messages

Most chat apps send a conversation to the AI as a series of separate user and assistant messages. Museris instead puts the characters, enabled lore, scene instruction, and chat history together into one large prompt for each reply. The system prompt is still sent separately.

This works well for models that are not trained for long, back-and-forth message lists. It is also useful in group chats, where several characters may speak before the player speaks again. The AI can read the whole scene as one story log and see who said each line.

You can change the layout of that prompt in Prompt Templates. Summarization can shorten older parts of a long log while leaving recent messages in full.

You are a character in the story

Every roleplay chat has a user character. You choose that character for each chat, just like you choose the characters the AI plays. This gives the AI more than a username or a blank “user” label: it can see your character's name, description, history, and relationship to the rest of the cast.

That extra context helps the AI understand your role in the scene and how characters should speak to you. It matters even more when you use impersonation, which asks the AI to write the next message as your selected character.

Any character can be your roleplay identity in one chat and an AI-controlled character in another. You can also edit a chat and change your user character partway through the story. This makes it easy to switch viewpoints, hand a scene to another member of the cast, or take over a character the AI was playing.
